Note: A native of Jefferson County, NY. One researcher believes that the name Gosen had originally been pronounced as Chosen. It is believed that on one census, Gosen's name appears as Augustus. Van Buren researchers believe that Gosen Van Buren was named for Gosen Quackenbush, a noted Revolutionary soldier. July - 2004 - a letter from a very competent Van Buren researcher confirmed her theory that Gosha's name was Augustus Van Buren. She found him liviing in Bethelehe, Rnnasalaer County, N. Y. 1810 census. Also, his name was found on the Rensselaerwyck Manor Records (1764-1839) are now on the internet at htrp:nysl.nysed.govmsscfasc70791_a_1.htm. There There you can find John McIntosh Deed to GOSAH Van Beuren of farm in Bethelehm, 112 acres. December 6, 1809. It is not known how long Augustus remained on this property. This researcher added the following information: IN the 1800 Bethlehelm census, John McIntosh is next to James Brice. In the 1810 census, Augustus Van Buren is next to James Brice, and 2 names from Augustus is James V Valkenburg. 2
